TMyou will need something like vag com and a lead i think it will be a can-bus lead? checkout http://www.ross-tech.com/ this will read it no worries you can download it for free if you search for it, then just buy a lead that will fit, the plug is below the steering wheel above the accelerator pedal, the problem will probably be a dodgy wire or a seat belt tensioner but if you plug it in you will know for sure with vag com, hope this helps.... TMI just bought one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-Vag-Com-Cable-In...A1%7C240%3A1308 It's not an opto-isolated one (apparently some of the older leads are opto-isolated and so don't work too well) so it works fine but the VAG-COM application (version 409.1) doesn't run well under Vista until you set it to work in compatibility mode. With that lead and the free download I'm sure you could reset the airbag light. It took a while to arrive as it's from the states but similar leads are available for the same price from the UK. Quote

ghr Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 im sure there might be someone near you who has vagcom? I am very near and I've just got one from ebay but can't get the bloody software driver installed. Quote
ghr Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Got it working by downloading a non-ross tech driver. Can't clear the airbag fault. MOT station said that as the code indicated a high resistance connection i.e. a wire has probably snapped then the airbag would be safe and so the tester will retest it. Post details of VAG COM purchased and driver needed later. Quote
ghr Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 it might just be the clock spring?. What do they look like, are they easy to change, and how much are they? Quote
gaznlou Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 Round shape, bolts under the steering wheel, not a lot of change from Quote
cyborg Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) Airbag removalImportant remember your dealing with an explosive device not wishing to panic you but keep the bag on a spare seat out of harms way not on yer lap. so you can drop a peice of metal across the pins and set it off. *my toptip have you mobile phone handy and take pictures of what youve disconnecting so you get it right on reassembly 1 disconnect batterys red and black and leave car for cuppa tea 15 mins to let juice discharge maybe more if you like digestives. 2 have a 2 1/2 in long approx socket spare so you can logde it in the steering rack at the bottom near clutch as the rack is spring loaded sometimes spring back once you have taken off wheel and getting wheel back on is a pain 3 now remove the plastic casing to expose wiring you will see a yellow connector thats the airbag connector disconnect itnow the trickey bit is between the wire is thread between the indicator stalk and cd selector unscrew the 2 screws so the wire comes free it should have some foam aroound it to protect 4 Now remove the two bolts holding on the airbag hold into the airbag you will see a yellow connector take note of which way round its connected. 5 Now remove the blue bolt 6 remove wheel carefully now you will see the copper v shape spring you can drive aroung with bag disconnected it will just show up on the idiot display until you get bits Edited June 19, 2009 by cyborg Quote
